Welcome to our live blog from Election Night 2024 and the results as they come in from south east London and north west Kent.

The result from the exit polls predict:

  • Labour has won a landslide victory in the UK general election

  • It will mean Keir Starmer becomes the new prime minister

  • Labour is expected to win 410 seats, with the Conservatives on 131

  • Voting closed at 22:00 with results from most of the 650 constituencies coming overnight

  • Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn wins his seat as an independent candidate against labour in Islington North.
  • Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader, wins in Clacton with the Conservatives in second place, with a majority of 8,405.
  • The Greens have won their target seat of Bristol Central.
  • There has been a 61.85% turnout for the Eltham and Chislehurst ward, with 45,758 voters in total.
  • For Erith and Thamesmead, the total turnout of voters was 51.48%.
  • In Greenwich and Woolwich, there has been a turnout of 58.76% voters.

The Greenwich and Woolwich count have now received all ballot boxes and postal boxes at the Waterfront Leisure Centre!

  • An SNP candidate stated "I’m going to lose. We’re all going to lose."
  • The exit poll suggests Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has just a 19% chance of retaining his seat!
  • A full recount is taking place in Basildon and Billericay, where Conservative Party chairman Richard Holden is at risk of losing his seat.
  • George Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain, has lost the seat he won earlier this year, with Labour retaking it
  • Ed Davey is re-elected for the Lib Dems, in the first announcement of a party leader's seat.
  • It looks as though the overall turnout could fall to 61%, which would be the lowest since 2005!
  • SNP minister says party must 'regroup quickly'

In Bexleyheath, preparations for counting is under way at Crook Log.

Meanwhile in Woolwich, counting will be taking place later, at the Woolwich Waterfront Leisure Centre.

On social media, Keir Starmer thanks "everyone who voted for us and put their trust in our changed Labour Party"

  • Reform have beaten the Conservative Party to second place in the first seat of the night in Houghton and Sunderland South, with 11,668 votes.
  • Senior Conservative Steve Baker told the BBC he 'accepts the Conservative Party has lost.'

 

Our listeners are getting involved!! Kim Tortnell voted at Christchurch Hall on Shooter's Hill, saying it was "very quiet with no queue at all!"

  • This Labour majority is set to be the second largest since World War 2.

"And just like that - ballot boxes from the 96 polling stations across the borough are being returned. The teams of Count Staff will now verify the ballot box votes." - via the London Borough of Bexley's Facebook. The results from Bexleyheath and Crayford are expected around 3AM!

 

  • The SNP's deputy leader Kate Forbes has admitted that if the exit poll is correct then it will be a "very difficult night for the SNP", and this has been a "change election," to bring an end to the Tories.
  • Tory defeat could be the worst seen since 1900.
  • Nigel Farage, Reform UK leader, states "our vote share so far is almost unbelievable."

    • Liberal Democrats gain their first seat of the night as they take Harrogate & Knaresborough and similarly with Conservatives, as they hold Rayleigh and Wickford. Although, the Tory drop in Rayleigh and Wickford is their biggest ever.
    • Lee Anderson has won his seat in Ashfield, making him the first Reform MP of the night.
