Change ahead: redevelopment of Woolwich town centre continues

Work continues as The Royal Borough of Greenwich revitalise Woolwich town centre.

The new-look town centre will, when finished, include new communal seating and paving on Powis Street, as well as a new urban garden, terraced seating and interactive water fountain on Beresford Square.

People in the town centre have begun to notice some changes already, as new paving is unveiled in parts of Powis Street.

The council hope that the new design will attract people to the area and reduce crime and day drinking.

The project also includes Woolwich Exchange, the proposed regeneration of the land around the former Woolwich covered market between Plumstead Road and Spray Street.

The development will provide 801 new homes and high quality facilities for businesses and leisure uses, including restaurants, cafes, bars and community space, as well as a five-screen cinema within the Grade II listed former Woolwich covered market.

Separately, Transport for London are holding a public consultation on proposals to make it easier and safer to walk and cycle between the Woolwich Ferry and Plumstead, and they would like to hear your views.
