The Chatty Cabins initiative on the IFS Cloud Cable Car invites Greenwich residents and visitors to connect through conversations while enjoying stunning Thames views as part of TfL’s 25th anniversary.

As part of Transport for London's (TfL) 25th anniversary celebrations, a new initiative called Chatty Cabins will encourage conversations and connections among Londoners and visitors. Operating on the IFS Cloud Cable Car, which links the Greenwich Peninsula with the Royal Docks, this scheme aims to tackle loneliness while celebrating what makes London unique.

A New Way to Connect Above the Thames

Running every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 February to 13 March (excluding the February half-term), the Chatty Cabins offer a free 20-minute round trip over the Thames. The trip includes thought-provoking conversation prompts and a complimentary hot drink. The initiative supports mental well-being by encouraging passengers to engage with one another and reflect on their favourite London moments and experiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for Greenwich residents and visitors to enjoy breathtaking views of landmarks such as the Thames Barrier, Maritime Greenwich, and The O2 while meeting new people. With an estimated 700,000 Londoners experiencing frequent loneliness, the Chatty Cabins offer a small but meaningful way to foster a sense of community.

A Commitment to Social Inclusion

The initiative aligns with the Mayor's Strategy for Social Inclusion and builds on research highlighting the impact of loneliness across different communities. Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor for Communities and Social Justice, noted: "Loneliness can affect anyone, but small moments like this remind us of the power of human connection. I'd like to encourage Londoners and visitors to take a ride on the IFS Cloud Cable Car, enjoy the stunning views, and help to foster a sense of community."

Trish Ashton, Director of Rail and Sponsored Services at TfL, echoed this sentiment: "London's only cable car offers a chance to celebrate what makes London special and bring people together as we mark our 25th anniversary year."

How to Take Part

Each Chatty Cabin ticket is valid for up to three people and must be booked in advance via Eventbrite. Early booking is recommended, as only a limited number of rides are available.

Celebrating 25 Years of TfL

The Chatty Cabins are just one of many events TfL hosts to celebrate its 25 years of service. Londoners are also invited to share their transport-related memories—a unique journey, a first-time experience, or even a marriage proposal on the cable car—by submitting stories to TfL25Memories@tfl.gov.uk.

The London Transport Museum will also mark the milestone with school competitions, family activities during the Easter break, and its first Museum Depot Open Days of the year, which will take place from 4 to 6 April in Acton.

Experience Greenwich from a New Perspective

For Greenwich locals and visitors alike, the Chatty Cabins provide a unique and uplifting way to connect with fellow Londoners while experiencing stunning aerial views. Whether you're a regular commuter or a first-time passenger, this initiative offers a moment to pause, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations above the Thames.

Book your ticket today and be part of a city-wide effort to make London a more connected and inclusive place for all.
