The Met Police Gives an Update on Fatal Woolwich Stabbing of 14-Year-Old Boy

A 14-year-old boy has tragically died following a stabbing on a bus in Woolwich, with police investigations underway.

The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following the death of a 14-year-old boy in Woolwich. Superintendent Louise Sargent, Deputy Commander for the South East Basic Command Unit (BCU), confirmed the tragic incident in a statement.

The police were called shortly before 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 7th January, to reports of a stabbing on a Route 472 bus on Woolwich Church Road, near the junction with the A205 South Circular Road. Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene for stab wounds, but he sadly died shortly after medical teams arrived. Superintendent Sargent expressed condolences to the boy’s family and friends, describing the crime as “horrendous” and acknowledging the impact it has had on the community.

At this early stage, no arrests have been made. Police are working urgently to identify and apprehend those responsible. Enhanced police patrols will remain in the area, and cordons and road closures are in place as officers continue their investigation.

Superintendent Sargent encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Witnesses are urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference 3795/07JAN25, or to provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing to the public for any assistance that may help bring those involved to justice.
