The 2025 TCS London Marathon is this Sunday and is set to be the biggest in the event’s 45-year history.
Running this year are elite runners Jacob Kiplimo, Eliud Kipchoge and Sifan Hassan.
This year’s race is set to welcome a record 56,000 runners, setting off from Blackheath and potentially surpassing the world largest turn-out for a marathon - 55,646 runners in the 2023 New York Marathon.
The elite wheelchair races will kick off at 8.50am, followed by the elite women at 9.05am and the elite men at 9.35am. The mass start will occur in waves between 9.35am and 11.30am (though exact timings may change). Participants will have received their specific start wave time via email around three weeks before race day.
The route starts in Blackheath and winds past some of London’s most iconic landmarks before finishing on The Mall.
To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, road closures, parking suspensions and footpath closures will be in operation. In the lead-up to the event, you will spot yellow road closure signs displayed on affected roads. Parking suspensions will be in place across the route, so please check your area for suspension signage.
Here are the vehicle crossing points, to help drivers cross the route safely.
On Event Day, police officers and stewards will help answer your queries and to ensure a safe and secure event.
Road closures in the Royal Borough of Greenwich
Several roads in Greenwich will be closed from 07:00 to 16:00 on Sunday 27 April 2025. If you need to leave the area in a vehicle on Sunday 27 April, it is recommended you do so before 07:00.
The route starts in Blackheath, heading east before turning towards Woolwich and the riverfront.
The route continues west, from Woolwich, towards Charlton.
From Charlton, the Marathon then heads towards Westcombe Park and Greenwich Town Centre, with the Cutty Sark one of the most iconic points in the race.
From there, the route heads toward central London.
Good luck to everyone taking part!
