Manchester United clinch 13th FA Cup win.
Manchester United have defeated city rivals Manchester City to clinch this year's FA Cup at Wembley and stave off pressure on beleaguered manager Erik ten Haag following a highly disappointing Premier League season. United won the game by 2 goals to 1 with first-half strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Neighbours City managed to get a goal back late in the 87th minute through Jeremy Doku to set up a nail-biting finish but United hung on to clinch a second trophy in as many seasons for the club and manager Erik Ten Haag. Manchester United's victory at Wembley alters the European qualification dynamics for next season as it means Chelsea who finished in 6th place are relegated to a Conference League place for next season whereas a Europa League place would have been theirs had Manchester United not defeated neighbours Manchester City. It also means that Newcastle United who finished a place above Manchester United in 7th have missed out entirely on the European spot for next season as Manchester United's defeat of Manchester City deprives them of a UEFA Conference League spot for next season. Manchester United who finished down in 8th, 31 points behind the league champions had come into the game as underdogs but performed better on the day than they have for much of this season with the FA Cup final won by Manchester United being the 13th in the clubs' history and leaves them only one behind record holders Arsenal.
