Mid-Week Premier League Trophy
There were 10 Premier League games this mid-week as the league season enters it's final stages with all twenty teams in the division playing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. Top three teams in the league all won their fixture meaning that the gap between them and their respective positions in the league remains only two points with Liverpool remaining top ahead of Arsenal in 2nd and Manchester City in 3rd. Liverpool defeated bottom placed Sheffield United 3–1 to stay two points clear of Arsenal who themselves defeated relegation battlers Luton Town 2–0 with goals from Martin Odegaard and a Luton Town own goal by Daiki Hashioka. The win also kept Arsenal unbeaten during this calendar year. Manchester City defeated Aston Villa by 4 goals to 1 with Phil Foden netting a hat-trick for the Citizens and kept Manchester City within only two points of league leaders Liverpool. In spite of that defeat Aston Villa remain in 4th place ahead of 5th placed Tottenham Hotspur who drew their Wednesday night game away at West Ham one each. The best game of the midweek fixtures however was Chelsea's 4–3 defeat of Manchester United at Stamford Bridge yesterday evening with attacking midfielder and ex Manchester City academy graduate Cole Palmer netting a hat-trick. Bournemouth defeated Crystal Palace at the Vitality Stadium 1–0 through a goal from Dominic Solanke which was his 16th Premier League goal of the season and took Bournemouth beyond 40 points and into 12th place above Fulham. Newcastle were held to 1–1 by by relegation battlers Everton with Aleksandar Isak's early penalty cancelled out by Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late equaliser. Brentford and Brighton played out a goalless draw whilst Wolves were held to a 1–1 draw away at relegation battlers Burnley. Nottingham Forest stayed narrowly clear of the relegation zone following their vital 3–1 home win over Fulham.
