TfL propose changes on major Woolwich Road

Transport for London are holding a public consultation on proposals to make it easier and safer to walk and cycle between the Woolwich Ferry and Plumstead, and they would like to hear your views.

TfL are proposing to extend the planned cycle facilities on Woolwich Road and Woolwich Church Street east from the Woolwich Ferry roundabout towards Plumstead. The new cycle route would run southeast along Powis Street onto Macbean Street and then east along the A206 Beresford Street, terminating at Plumstead Road.

They’re also proposing a series of improvements for pedestrians throughout the area – including a new pedestrian crossing to offer better and safer connectivity to the Woolwich Elizabeth line station – and to introduce new bus lanes along Beresford Street and Woolwich High Street.

TfL have published a series of maps to illustrate the proposed changes, together with artists impressions to show how these changes might look once built. They have also published a document which describes the changes they propose to make in more detail.

TfL say that the changes would make streets in the area safer, helping meet their Vision Zero target, as well as being more pleasant by enabling people to walk and cycle more. The ideas will also help to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions, which could improve local people’s health. It would also address congestion and help support new developments planned across the wider area by providing better walking and cycling links to local businesses and stations.

There is more information and an opportunity to share your views on the TfL Website.
