Three individuals, including two teenagers, have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of 14-year-old Kelyan Bokassa in Woolwich, as police continue to appeal for information in their ongoing investigation.
Detectives investigating the tragic murder of 14-year-old Kelyan Bokassa in Woolwich have made significant progress, arresting three individuals.
On Wednesday, 15 January, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of murder. Both remain in police custody. Additionally, a 44-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender; she is also in custody as enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, who is leading the investigation, described the arrests as a crucial development but stressed the importance of continued public cooperation.
“These arrests mark a significant step forward in this investigation,” DCI Lee stated. “However, we continue to appeal for anyone with information about Kelyan’s murder to come forward and speak to us.”
She praised the efforts of the investigating officers and the resilience of the Woolwich community, adding, “I would like to thank officers for working around the clock to locate our suspects and praise the Woolwich community for their ongoing support and patience while we carried out our investigation. I know this incident deeply affected you all, and I hope these arrests reassure you that we are doing everything in our power to tackle violent offenders across London.”
The Incident
Police were called at 14:28hrs on Tuesday, 7 January, following reports of a stabbing on a Route 472 bus in Woolwich. The attack took place on Woolwich Church Street near the junction with the A205 South Circular Road.
Emergency services, including officers from the Metropolitan Police, the London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance, attended the scene. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Kelyan Bokassa, who had sustained stab wounds, tragically passed away shortly after their arrival.
Kelyan, who was just 14 years old, has been formally identified, and his family is being supported by specialist officers during this devastating time.
